Getting the Danish Joke: Humour, Irony & Other Funny Mysteries
Why do Danes joke the way they do, and why can Danish humour sometimes be difficult to understand as an international?
This talk is based on the book 'Danish Humour: Sink or Swim' by Lita Lundquist and Helen Dyrbye and Lita is joining International Citizen Days to introduce you to the unwritten rules behind Danish jokes, irony and informal communication.
The talk explores how Danes use irony, ‘self-irony’ and informal comments to create connection, but also why these forms of humour can be confusing if you are new to Danish culture.
Join this talk for a fun and insightful look at Danish everyday life, workplaces and social situations, and get practical tools to better understand when to laugh, when to ask, and how to join the conversation.
