Speakers Corner: Siulit – Ancestors: We Are Here Now
Experience a talk that shows through pictures how identity is shaped by family histories, migration, language, culture and the experience of living between different worlds.
Danish photographer Shazia Khan presents her photobook 'Siulit – Ancestors: We Are Here Now', a portrait project exploring identity, belonging and cultural heritage among people with roots in more than one culture. The book brings together portraits and personal stories of people living in Denmark with roots in Greenland and other parts of the world.
The talk will speak about portraits and stories from the book, encounters behind the project, as well as the approach to photography as a way of creating space for people to tell their own stories.
The audience is invited to reflect on their own ideas of home and belonging: Can we belong to more than one place at the same time – and who gets to decide where we belong?
Please note that Speakers’ Corner is an intimate setting without microphones. Seating is limited to 20 people, and the format is designed for close conversation and dialogue between speakers and the audience.
