Volunteering: A Shortcut to Communities

How do you get started as a volunteer in Denmark, and what is it actually like?

In this panel conversation, you will meet three volunteers: 

• Nikki, who volunteers at Kulturens Frivillige, a platform that connects people with volunteerjobs at cultural events and festivals. In addition, she also volunteers with other organisations and events including Sparta, Copenhagen Pride, and the Danish Red Cross.
   
• Dana, who volunters as a Welcome Ambassador in Ørestad, an initiative supported by the City of Copenhagen. Dana helps organise and host monthly activities for international residents, including Welcome Cafés, walk-and-talk events, winter information sessions and hygge gatherings. 
   
• Wictor Lobazewicz's volunteer work focuses on social and political issues, and he tries to combine broad initiatives with smaller, local ones. Wictor is currently volunterring at Amager Urbane Haver, Ørestad Welcome Ambassadors, Folkemødet and Vikingeforeningen Det Kolde Gys.

They will share the experiences that have stayed with them, the challenges they have encountered and what they enjoy most about being a volunteer.

Moderated by Jacob Ørum, from Studenterhuset, the conversation will also focus on their advice to others: What should you know before signing up? What kinds of volunteering have they found most rewarding? And what would they recommend to someone who wants to try volunteering in Denmark for the first time?
